in progress

I haven’t been going to figure drawing for a while. Part of the reason is because I got sick back in November and it ruined my sleeping/waking schedule that I worked so hard to maintain. (By nature I stay up late and wake late, so to get up really early and be somewhere at 8:30 am takes a lot of grueling training for me to accomplish. And now that’s just shot.) The other reason is because I’m mucking around with some stuff in studio.

Saturday I started to get sick, but I went anyway. I had been fighting fatigue all week and it finally became a sore throat that day. It was awful. I couldn’t differentiate between being sick and having a hangover, of which I had both. You’d think I would have learned those lessons in college, you know, not to overdo things when you’re under the weather, but that Lagunitas Brown Shuggah was irresistibly tasty.

one shot deal

I went to the Ft Lauderdale area for the weekend. Started sorting through the pictures this morning. This one is a favorite, taken in the car on the highway Saturday morning on the way to the Everglades. Sometimes, timing really is everything.

Didn’t go drawing last weekend. Drove up to the Museum of Fine Arts in St Pete to see the Leslie Dill exhibit, which was awesome. If you live in driving distance to wherever this show is traveling, I highly recommend spending a few hours with it. (Check out the Museum’s page and a small sampling of the work in the show here.)

The weather is amazing today. The 20 minute torrential rain yesterday afternoon brought in a cold front. Waking up to a 70 degree morning was such a refreshing change from the humid high 90s summer drag. I felt pretty content in a sleepy haze all morning. Especially after the relief of waking up from this odd dream that I was walking around in the West Village in New York going to Mamoun’s for a falafel, wearing this harlot red satin and white lace Victorian gown. Honestly, I have no idea.

Amber was supposed to be the model Saturday, but she called in sick at the last minute. Gloria was nice enough to drop what she was doing and come in to sub.

It’s been two weeks since I last drew. I had some reasons to not go, although they were all ultimately not very good reasons. I had just been to the Art Center a few days before for a crit on a show that I have a drawing in. Telling myself gas conservation, money, and catch up time on other projects were better reasons, I didn’t go. Stupid me. Look at how I goofed up ears and other appendages. Continue reading ‘gloria’

All the models we’ve had have either been pretty thin or with really well-defined musculature. Finally, Saturday we had a Rubenesque sort of model. Which was great but her poses were not so… inspired.
